HOW WE RATE
THE BELL HAS RULES.
DealDinger ratings are editorial signals—not promises, guarantees, or a mysterious algorithm pretending every decision can be reduced to decimal points.
THE DING TEST
When we evaluate an app, deal, tool, service, or opportunity, we look at five things:
💵 VALUE
What do you realistically get for the money, time, data, or attention required?
🛠️ EFFORT
How much work, setup, tracking, or ongoing maintenance does the benefit require?
⚡ SPEED
How quickly can a typical eligible user reasonably reach the useful part?
🚨 CATCHES
Fees, deposits, subscriptions, minimums, eligibility, deadlines, privacy tradeoffs, and other conditions that change the deal.
🤝 TRUST
Does the experience, company, offer structure, and fine print give us enough confidence to point readers toward it?
THE DING RATING
🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔 — Exceptional. Strong value, manageable catches, easy to recommend.
🔔🔔🔔🔔 — Very good. Worth a serious look for the right person.
🔔🔔🔔 — Useful, but conditional. Read The Catch before deciding.
🔔🔔 or less — Usually not a Pick. We may still cover it when there is something useful to explain or warn about.
A rating is our assessment at the time of review. Offers, pricing, requirements, and products change, so a bell score can change too.
DINGS, PICKS & REVIEWS ARE DIFFERENT.
Today’s Ding means something timely is worth noticing. It may be temporary.
DealDinger Pick means we are comfortable recommending the product, app, tool, or opportunity after applying the Ding Test.
Review means we examined something in more depth. A review does not guarantee a positive rating or Pick designation.
🚨 THE CATCH IS PART OF THE SCORE.
A headline benefit does not get graded in isolation. If an offer requires money up front, has a difficult payout threshold, auto-renews, restricts eligibility, or comes with another meaningful tradeoff, that affects our assessment.
AFFILIATE MONEY DOESN’T BUY BELLS.
DealDinger may earn commissions from some links. That relationship can affect whether a link is monetized; it does not automatically determine the rating, editorial conclusion, or Pick designation.
When compensation or affiliate relationships apply, we disclose them. For the full details, see our Affiliate Disclosure and Editorial Guidelines.
OUR PICKS AREN’T FOR SALE.
That would make the bell pretty useless.
